Home / Wood Flooring Cost Guide
A clear guide to what drives the cost of a wood floor — and how we quote.
The price of a wood floor in Cambridge depends on more than the boards themselves. Understanding the variables helps you compare quotes fairly and decide where your budget is best spent.
Several factors move the figure up or down. The grade of oak is the biggest single driver — clean, knot-free boards cost considerably more than rustic grades full of natural character. Format matters too: herringbone and chevron take longer to set than straight planks, so the same timber costs more to lay as a pattern. Then there is the subfloor — a flat, sound base can be fitted straight onto, while uneven concrete or old boards may need levelling or a plywood overlay first. Finally, lifting and disposing of an existing floor, trimming doors and fitting beading or thresholds all form part of a complete, fitted price, which is why we quote the whole job rather than a bare rate per square metre.
For most homes, investing in a good engineered oak and proper subfloor preparation pays off in a floor that stays flat and lasts. Patterns such as herringbone and chevron cost more in labour but transform a room. We will always advise honestly on where your budget makes the most difference.
Rather than publish a price list, we provide a clear, fixed quotation after understanding your room, floor and finish — in our Cambridge showroom or at your home. There are no surprises once work begins.
