Home / Project Guidelines
Last updated: June 2026
These guidelines set out the site, preparation and installation requirements for Cambridge Floors flooring projects, including site conditions, subfloor preparation, acclimatisation, access and client responsibilities. Please read them carefully before confirming your installation date.
The site must be fully weather-tight. External doors should be lockable and all windows must remain closed for the duration of the works.
Heating & plumbing: any underfloor heating must be fully operational and all plumbing works completed. Kitchen units do not need to be installed before flooring.
Subfloor: the subfloor must be dry and level to within ±3mm over a 3m straight edge. A charge may apply if these standards are not met on arrival.
Clear site: the work area must be clear of other trades, tools and materials. Once a start date is confirmed, the site must be ready on that day; if our team cannot begin, a day-rate charge may apply.
Lead times are product-specific and confirmed once a deposit is received. Where required preparation is not completed before our arrival, this may affect your product warranty.
Acclimatisation: wood should be left to acclimatise on site for 2–3 days in ambient, lived-in conditions.
Board lengths: each pack contains a range of board lengths; shorter boards are used at row ends to enhance the layout.
Natural variation: variation in grain and colour is normal and samples are a guide only.
Rooms must be cleared of furniture and breakables before fitters arrive; we are not responsible for moving fragile or personal items. Clients are responsible for arranging any parking permits in advance.
For sanding and sealing works the property must be pre-heated and kept at stable, ambient conditions, with windows and external doors closed during the process. Where skirting is already fitted, light edge marks may appear and may require touching up; Cambridge Floors is not responsible for repainting. When staining or replacing boards, an exact colour match across old and new timber cannot be guaranteed.
On completion, the client or an authorised representative should inspect the work. A digital completion record is issued by the lead fitter. Where the client is not present, attendance being part of the client’s responsibility, the work will be deemed accepted on the client’s behalf.
Accurate drawings or measurements help us quote correctly. Where these are not provided, Cambridge Floors cannot be held responsible for omissions, and any additional area or items required to complete the work will be chargeable at the agreed rate.
Use a breathable covering and a robust protective layer; do not lay non-breathable sheeting directly on the floor, as trapped condensation can damage it and void the warranty. Never tape coverings directly to the floor.
Supply-only orders: payment in full is required before delivery or collection.
Supply & installation orders: 50% is required to confirm the order and secure installation dates, with the balance due on completion.
Quotations are valid for 30 days from the date issued. Please contact us if you need more time.
