From forest to floor

Every Cambridge Floors project moves through the same four stages — and the same team carries it from the first board selected to the last one swept. No subcontractors, no handovers, no surprises. This is how a floor that lasts a generation is made.

Four stages, one team

01 — Selection

The oak. We hand-select European oak by grade, cut and character — rift, quartered or rustic — before a single board is cut. The grain is chosen long before the colour.

02 — Samples

In your room. Finishes are brushed, oiled, smoked or limed to sample, then seen in your own light before anything is ordered. You approve the exact floor you’ll receive.

03 — Preparation

The groundwork. Subfloors are levelled, moisture-tested and the oak left to acclimatise on site. The half no one sees is the half that decides everything.

04 — Fitting

By our own fitters. Laid, sanded and finished on site by the same team throughout — then handed over swept, sealed and ready to walk on.

Why our process matters

A wood floor is only as good as the preparation beneath it and the hands that lay it. Because one team owns every stage, accountability never passes to someone else — the people who select the oak are part of the same workshop that fits it. That continuity is why our floors sit flat, age evenly and stay beautiful for decades, and why homeowners, architects and designers across Cambridge return to us floor after floor.

Where we work

We supply and fit across Cambridge and the surrounding villages — from Ely and Newmarket to Trumpington and Cherry Hinton. Visit our Mill Road showroom to see and feel the finishes in person.

From forest to floor

One team, start to finish

What sets a Cambridge Floors project apart is that the same people see it through from the first sample to the last threshold. There is no handover between a supplier who sells the floor and a fitter who lays it — which is exactly where most floor problems begin.

That continuity is why we can stand behind the result: the board we recommend is the board we acclimatise, the sub-floor we prepare is the one we fit onto, and the finish we sample is the finish you live with.
